Sensational International Line-up Prepares for Six-Round Season

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia (LSTA) is coiled and ready to unleash its sensational international field of talent as it prepares for the 2024 season. The six-stop, 12-race battle for the PRO, PRO-AM, AM and Lamborghini Cup titles gets underway at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit this weekend, with an entry crammed full of uncompromising professionals and passionate privateers, each at the wheel of one of the powerful, agile Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 powerhouses.

An Intriguing International Entry
Returning for the opening two rounds is 2023 PRO champion and Super Trofeo Junior Driver Marco Giltrap. This season the 20-year-old is joined at Absolute Racing by yet another up-and-coming young driver from his native New Zealand, Clay Osborne. Still only 18 years-of-age, Osborne has worked his way through the ranks of karting and open wheel competition, and now aims his talents towards sportscar racing.

Two more youngsters join the grid for 2024 in the form of two-time Formula 4 Macau Grand Prix winner, 22-year-old Charles Leong Hon Chio of Macau, who teams up with Japanese former W Series driver Miki Koyama, 26 in the Lamborghini Nagoya car. The talented duo are entered by SJM Iron Lynx Theodore Racing, an exciting new collaboration between one of the world’s most storied race teams and the Italian Lamborghini specialist.

Guaranteed to give the young guns more than a run for their money is one of Asia’s most respected drivers, Leong’s fellow Macau driver André Couto. After becoming the first and only local driver to win the prestigious Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix in 2000, Couto went on to enjoy a long and successful career in the Japan Super GT series, while at the same time competing in both single and multi-marque sports car events across the region. Couto teams up with China’s Cheng Fangpin at Madness Racing Team for their debut Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia campaign together. Piloting the team’s second Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 are China’s Hong Shijie and He Xinyang.

Having swept to the 2023 PRO-AM title after a truly thrilling season with Oscar Lee and Dan Wells, DW Evans GT returns with two more potential stars in the Lamborghini Osaka car; 20-year-old Finn Nikolas Pirttilahti and Thomas Yu Lee. Joining them on the two-car entry in the Lamborghini Kobe car is none other than reigning PRO-AM champion Wells, this time partnering with exciting 24-year-old Frenchman and series newcomer Emilien Carde.

A three-car entry from leading Asian squad Arrows Racing sees the return of Super Trofeo stalwart 24-year-old Jonathan Cecotto. An eventful LSTA season in 2023 saw him finish third in the PRO-AM standings with China’s Qiang Li, and sixth on the PRO leaderboard having raced solo in Australia and won race two there. In Malaysia, Cecotto is partnered by Gavin Huang, who contested two rounds last season.

Johnson Huang and Vincent Tai join Arrows Racing in 2024, the Chinese Taipei pair having finished fifth in the AM class last season. Samson Chan makes a welcome return having contested the series in 2016, 2017 and 2019. One of Asia’s most venerated drivers, Chan is joined at Arrows Racing this season by Steven Chian who makes his LSTA debut.

Korean sensation Brian Lee makes a triumphant return with SQDA – GRIT Motorsport in the Lamborghini Seoul car. Along with 2023 team mate John Kwon in their first-ever foray into the world of international motorsport, the pair finished second in the AM class having mounted an astonishing title campaign all season.

Another dark horse amongst the newcomers, meanwhile, is China’s Peter Li Zhicong at Blackjack Racing.  Li began racing in single seaters, competing in Europe as well as Asia, and has continued to keep his skills razor sharp via open-wheels while successfully combining his campaigns with GT competition.

Leading a strong Thai contingent for 2024 is reigning Lamborghini Cup champion Supachai Weeraborwornpong. Six wins in twelve races, plus a further four podiums and five pole positions – all achieved solo - earned Supachai the title for his Siamgas Corse team. Making a welcome return to the series is TRUE VISIONS MOTORSPORTS THAILAND’s Suttiluck Buncharoen, having contested a partial season last year.

Newcomers YK Motorsports enters the Lamborghini Bangkok car for a pair of debutants; 30-year-old female driver Nattanid Leewattanavalagul and Dechathorn Phuakkarawut. The pair have already proved a force to be reckoned with together having finished second in the 2023 Thailand Super Series Supercar GT4 championship.

Two more very welcome returnees for the new season are Hairie and Haziq Oh. The brothers fought tooth and nail throughout the 2023 in their quest for the Lamborghini Cup title, however their two class wins and eight podiums weren’t enough to unseat a dominant Supachai and they ended the year in second. Iron Lynx enters a second car for Kumar Prabakaran. The Malaysian driver finished fourth after a hotly-contested Lamborghini Cup season in 2023, which saw him take three class wins, a further four podium finishes and four pole positions.

Korean squad Racegraph enters two cars, the first for Luo Haowen, who contested a partial season in 2023 with Frenchman Benjamin Rouget to finish fifth in the PRO-AM class. This year Luo is joined by fellow Chinese driver Song Jiajun.

Newcomers 610 Racing by Absolute Racing enter China’s Li Xuanyu and Xie Wenjun.

Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2
The Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 is the most high-performance version ever created and features radical aerodynamic refinements over its predecessor. Its uncompromising design was created by Lamborghini Centro Stile, with the most eye-catching visual enhancements being the new light clusters and pronounced ‘omega’ lip at the front, and new air curtain intakes to optimize air flow.

The 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine delivers up to 620 CV of power, while the carbon intake duct and racing exhaust system create the thunderous, goose bump-inducing sound which has become synonymous with the Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

Six rounds across three continents for four titles
The 2024 season bursts into life at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit this weekend, before the series makes a return to Adelaide’s The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia for the second consecutive year from June 7-9. Round three takes LSTA to the sweeping, mountainous Inje Speedium, 120km East of the South Korean capital Seoul from July 19-21, before it heads to Fuji International Speedway in the foothills of Japan’s sacred Mount Fuji from August 16-18.

LSTA once again returns to the home Chinese motorsport with the Shanghai International Circuit hosting the final races on Asian soil for 2024, and the penultimate round of the season from September 13-15.  For Round 6, a new experience awaits the LSTA teams and drivers at Spain’s Jerez de La Frontera track, the venue for both the season finale and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals, where they will go head-to-head with their North American and European counterparts in a year-ending thriller.

The series incorporates four individual titles; PRO, PRO-AM, AM and Lamborghini Cup, and each race is points-scoring on a sliding scale for the top ten in each class according to the final classification, with an extra point earned for pole position in each category. Each race weekend includes two, hour-long free practice sessions, and two 15-minute qualifying runs to set the grids for the two 50-minute races. Each race includes one mandatory pit stop.

All LSTA races will be live-streamed via the Lamborghini Squadra Corse YouTube channel.
